Jerry Afriyie scores in Black Stars loss to Niger

Thought FC youngster Jerry Afriyie scored for the Black Stars of Ghana in his debit game in their 2-1 loss to Niger on Monday in the 2025 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

The Black Stars who were already eliminated from the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers after their 1-1 draw against Angola on Matchday 5 had nothing to play for ahead of the Niger game. On the other hand, Niger needed the win and hope other games go in their favour to secure qualification to the AFCON 2025 in Morocco.

Ouseini Badamassi scored the first goal of the game for the visitors in the 22nd minute after he headed into the net a cross from Rahim Alhassane to make the scoreline 1-0 before the first-half whistle.

In the second half, 17-year-old Jerry Afriyie who was playing his first game for the Black Stars of Ghana scored in the 67th minute after an assist from Lyon’s playmaker Ernest Nuamah.

Just when the game was about to end, Rahim Alhassane sent a cross into the box from a freekick as Oumar Sako connected with his head to score the second goal for Niger in the 92nd minute. Ghana were awarded a penalty but Kudus Mohammed missed as he stepped up to kick the ball.

The Black Stars of Ghana after 6 games now have 3 points and have been eliminated from the AFCON 2025 Qualifiers with Angola and Sudan booking qualification from Group F.
