Mfantsipim Boys Senior High School Nicknamed “Botwe” has qualified for the finals of the 2024 edition of the National Science and Math Quiz competition ongoing in Cape Coast.
Botwe boys faced tough competition from 8 times NSMQ Champions Presbyterian Boys Senior High School and Osei Tutu SHS for a place in the finals of this year’s competition. The boys in red began showing signs of champions when they emerged victorious in the first round with a score of 23 points against Prescec’s 21 points and Osei Tutu’s 12 points.
Mfantsipim again maintained their lead in the second round when they added 7 more points to make it a total of 30 points in the second round. PRESEC also followed closely with 27 points as Osei Tutu struggled with just 10 points at the end of the round.
All three schools scored 10/10 in the third round as they answered the problem of the day correctly. In the fourth round, PRESEC surprisingly led the contest with 53 points followed closely by Botwe with 50 points. Osei Tutu once again were nowhere to be found as their 27 points at the end of the fourth round were just too small to keep them going.
The final round could not decide the competition as PRESEC and Mfantsipim were on level pairing with 53 points each. The competition was decided when Botwe broke the tie after answering the last question which was enough to see them through to the finals of this year’s competition.
Presbyterian Boys Senior High School, the most successful school in the history of the National Science and Math Quiz have been eliminated by Mfantsipim Boys SHS who are looking to win the competition for the third time in history after winning it in 1999 and 2014.
