The Black Stars of Ghana recorded a 1-0 defeat against the Black Antelopes of Angola in the first game of the 2025 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers at the Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday, September 5, 2024.
The Ghana National Football Team led by Head Coach Otoo Addo fielded a strong starting lineup that included Goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Mohammed Salisu, Abdul Mumin, Tariq Lamptey, and Alidu Seidu in Defence.
Arsenal Midfielder and Black Stars Captain Thomas Teye Partey played in midfield alongside Elisha Owusu, Kudus Mohammed, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, and Antoine Semenyo. Jordan Ayew played upfront as the Black Stars recorded their first defeat at home in over 20 years.
The game began with both sides mounting pressure on each other in search of the opening goals but all efforts proved futile as the first half ended in a goalless draw. In the second half, Angolan Coach Soares Goncalves made 5 substitutions which eventually resulted in a goal for the visiting team.
Red Star Belgrade player Milson scored the only goal of the game in the 93rd minute after he made good use of a defensive blunder from Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin. The Black Stars of Ghana have now dropped to the third position in Group F with 0 points together with Niger behind Sudan (3 points) and Angola (3 points ).
The team will travel to Morocco to face Niger on Monday, September 9, 2024 in the second AFCON 2025 Qualifiers group game.
