Ghana records first loss against Austria in U20 Women’s World Cup

The Black Princesses of Ghana lost 2-1 to Austria in their first group-stage game of the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Columbia.

Coach Yusif Basisgi’s side conceded first just 12th minutes into the game after 17-year-old Austrian forward Hannah Fankhauser scored to put his team in the lead before the first-half whistle.

18-year-old Nicole Ojukwu of FC Freigburg converted a penalty in the 71st minute to double the lead for the Austrian U-20 National team. After tactical changes by Ghanaian team Coach Yusif Basigi, the Black Princesses of Ghana Pulled one back through a sublime Stella Nyamekye effort.

The Ghana National U-20 Women’s team has now lost four consecutive games at the U20 World Cup including all three Group Stage defeats in the Previous edition in 2022. The team now sits bottom of the group after today’s loss and will take on Japan in the second Group stage game on September 5, 2024.
