Electoral Commission Denies Rigging Allegations, Says No Names Added to Voters’ Register.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has categorically denied allegations of manipulating voter data to influence the outcome of the 2024 elections. These claims emerged after the recent voters’ register exhibition, where some individuals alleged unauthorized vote transfers. The opposition National Democratic Congress also accused the EC of deliberately inflating the register to favor a particular party.

However, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, Deputy Commissioner of the EC in charge of Corporate Services, dismissed these allegations as baseless. “The EC has not added any names to the Voters Register to rig the elections for a specific party,” he emphasized. “We have no intention of bloating the register to give any political party an unfair advantage.”

Dr. Asare explained that the controversy stemmed from an error in the transfer data, which incorrectly combined cumulative totals from 2020, 2023, and 2024.

“This mistake has been rectified, and the corrected register will be provided to the Political Parties after all necessary corrections have been made,” he assured. The revised transfer list will also be shared with the parties, he added.

The EC’s statement aims to reassure the public and political parties of its commitment to a transparent and fair electoral process.
