Renowned Ghanaian chief, Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, has made a passionate appeal to citizens to prioritize the demand for free and fair electoral processes over mere advocacy for peace during elections. He emphasized that the integrity of the electoral system is the cornerstone of peace and stability in the country.
During a recent public event, following a courtesy visit from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team, Togbe Afede stressed that while peace is essential, it is the transparency and fairness of elections that truly prevent violence and unrest. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and hold electoral bodies accountable to ensure the upcoming elections are conducted fairly.
Togbe Afede highlighted that credible and transparent elections significantly reduce the likelihood of disputes and conflicts. He encouraged Ghanaians to prioritize the integrity of the electoral process, emphasizing that a fair election is the foundation of a peaceful society.
His timely remarks come amid rising political tensions ahead of the 2024 general elections, with various stakeholders calling for calm. Togbe Afede’s emphasis on free and fair elections underscores the need for a robust and transparent electoral system to ensure peace and stability in Ghana.
He posed a thought-provoking question, “Why is everybody focused on advocating for peace during and after elections, while neglecting the crucial aspect of free and fair elections, which is the true guarantee of the peace we all desire?
