Former President and Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has extended his heartfelt appreciation to the esteemed Paramount Chief of the Bawku Traditional Area, Zug-Raan Asigri Abugrago Azorka, as well as the respected chiefs, queen mothers, and the people of Kusaug, for their enthusiastic reception and active engagement during his recent #Mahama4Change2024 campaign tour in the Upper East Region. Mahama was visibly grateful for the warm hospitality and energetic participation he received from the community, which further energized his campaign’s momentum.
Following his visit to the Upper East Region, Mr. Mahama took to Facebook to share his vision for Ghana’s future, stating, “Together, as a united country, we will build the Ghana we want, lifting our people out of poverty, strengthening agriculture through farmer services centers, and improving healthcare and social infrastructure.”
However, during a campaign event in Binduri on Sunday, August 4, Mr. Mahama criticized the government for spreading misinformation, specifically accusing the presidency of being the “headquarters of misinformation.” He claimed that fake stories are fabricated and disseminated from the presidency, particularly from the Jubilee House (formerly Flagstaff House).
Mr. Mahama cited a personal experience where a fake news story misquoted him regarding the creation of a new region. He explained that he had discussed the constitutional processes required for region creation, including economic viability, land size, and population criteria, as well as the need for a petition and commission of inquiry. Despite this, a misleading article attempted to portray him as opposed to the Mamprugu state, which he denied.
Mr. Mahama challenged the president to address the issue of misinformation within his own administration before criticizing others, stating, The president should clean his own house first before talking about misinformation elsewhere.
